Here at The Firs we believe that your special feline friend deserves the best comfort and they get this no matter what time of year or how long or short their stay is.
We have different types of Chalets to suit the age, personality and number of cats (our largest Chalet can house up to six cats). All of our Chalets are much bigger than regulation standard sizes, so your cat will have plenty of room to relax while on their holiday.
Each Chalet has a separate multi-levelled indoor area and an outside covered area, so they can jump, climb or just relax. Each indoor sleeping area is fully insulated and have thermostatically controlled heating. Although the pens are nice and warm, for our older feline clientele, we also have heated beds.
We use a mixture of cosy bedding for both indoors and outdoors, and you can rest assured your cat will have soft beds with plenty of blankets for them to snuggle in. Some guests like igloos, so we provide these too! To add a homely touch, we also have a small camping sofa in one of our family pens, which we cover with blankets. Some guests like to hide under them, so we always check before sitting down!!
We also believe that the cats should have plenty of enrichment while they are on their holiday, which is why no matter how old a cat may be, they have a basket of toys to play with (sterilised of course). For cats that love more than balls and soft mice, we add extra interactive toys to give them more fun and stimulation. Scratching posts/mats are also available for cats that enjoy them.
Other enrichment for the cats are our resident chickens! They are often seen free roaming around the cattery and will generally go and say hello to the cats, just in the hope that they may have food!
They like to sunbathe and sometimes they lay in the flower beds which are right near several Chalets, so the cats get to watch them…..most are just intrigued by the chickens and some runaway from them!
The chickens like to help around the cattery too and they can often be seen in the trolleys, usually up to no good!
Most cats have a prey drive, so we make sure that all the Chalets have suitable toys in that the cats can chase and catch, otherwise this would be extremely unfair on the cats.
Our chickens……Madge, Ronni and Noisy Nelly, lay the most beautiful fresh free range eggs which we have on sale when enough are available.
